Asset management process improvement project

Helping Waterloo North Hydro automate analytical processes for infrastructure planning.

Waterloo North Hydro (WNH) provides electric services to over 58,000 customers. With the grid needing more planning than ever to ensure reliability and regulators wanting continuous improvement in data-driven decision-making, WNH turned to Engineered Intelligence to help improve their asset management processes. The strategy: to automate as much as possible, taking a modular, incremental approach and to prioritize where to start.

By focusing on a modular approach, WNH has the ability to turn features and analysis on/off to suit immediate needs. We began the asset management improvement process for a select set of priority asset classes, using ENGIN™ automated asset condition assessment. Eventually we expanded WNH's use of ENGIN™ loading all key distribution asset classes and utilizing the data to inform capital investment decisions on asset repair and replacements.

With the implementation of ENGIN™ WNH's utility planners and asset managers can now make more informed data-driven investment decisions and make the regulatory filing more efficient.
